Stephen Morris works as an Associate in Office Landlord Representation in the Cleveland office of JLL.
What are your key responsibilities?
As a Landlord rep, I’m constantly ensuring we’re marketing a property accurately with every tool available. More importantly, it’s my job to thoroughly understand clients’ (the landlord’s) key goals and to ensure these goals will be achieved when communicating with the brokerage community and customers.
When did you join JLL?
Just over two years ago. It was my first job out of school and I love it. It’s exciting, fun and challenging at the same time.
Where are you originally from?
Born and raised in Cleveland.
Favorite musician or band?
I have a few, but Spike Jonze’s “Adaptation” comes to mind. Charlie Kaufman’s writing on this was pretty mind-blowing. It also showcases Nicholas Cage’s underrated acting ability.
Favorite TV show?
Right now it’s “The Simpsons.” I’m going through all of the old episodes. It’s really pretty smart satire and it’s hilarious.
“Shantaram” by Gregory David Roberts. It’s an epic novel Roberts based off of his escape from prison in Australia and subsequent travels to India. Roberts is an incredibly eloquent and talented writer.
How do you spend your spare time outside of work?
I really love movies (I studied film a bit in college) and recently got to check off a bucket list dream of going to Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah this past January. I also love playing guitar, photography and running.
What is your dream vacation?
I’d really like to spend some time in South America. Hiking Machu Picchu is a dream. There are tribes around there that haven’t changed their way of living for thousands of years. I’d also make sure to stop in Patagonia and see some of the glaciers, waterfalls, and mountain vistas.
Where is the best place you’ve traveled to and why?
I was able to travel to Tanzania last summer, which was really special. The wildlife was spectacular. Watching lions, cheetahs, giraffes and elephants doing the simplest things in the wild, like eating, walking, sunbathing were mesmerizing. The highlight was probably seeing the migration of wildebeests and zebras in the Northern Serengeti. We spent a whole morning driving through a group of about 700- or 800,000 of them in every direction.
What do you like or enjoy most about your city?
Probably the people. Everyone is super friendly and takes an interest in what’s going on around them. Having a great restaurant and beer scene, three professional sports teams and a world-class art museum don’t hurt either. Cleveland is America’s best-kept secret.
